This intensive two-day art course is dedicated to exploring the art of drawing the human portrait with dry pastels, with a special focus on how to “catch the light” and bring your portraits to life. The course begins with an introduction to essential concepts such as anatomy, proportions, and line work, providing a solid foundation for your creative practice. The tutor will demonstrate his personal technique for creating minimalistic yet luminous portraits, using toned paper and dry pastel pencils. You will learn how to manipulate light and shadow, make the most of the paper’s natural color, and apply a carefully chosen palette to enhance depth and expression in your work. On the second day, the focus shifts to nude drawing with life model, giving you the opportunity to study the human form in its entirety and refine your understanding of anatomy, posture, and gesture. Both days include live portrait sessions, allowing you to practice these techniques in a dynamic, real-world setting. This course is ideal for artists with some basic knowledge of figure drawing and proportions, who wish to develop their skills further and explore the expressive possibilities of dry pastels. Maximum 12 students. Schedule: 09:30 am – 04:30 pm.

Swiss-British artist, recently moved to Nyon in Western Switzerland. Mostly self-taught, I'm passionate about painting and drawing. In recent years I've attended art courses in London at The Royal Drawing School and The Heatherley School of Fine Art. I'm especially interested in figure drawing, portraiture, landscape and plein-air painting.
Peter O. Stalder ist ein britisch-schweizerischer Künstler, der 1966 geboren wurde und in der Schweiz in Epalinges (VD) lebt. Er ist ein leidenschaftlicher Zeichner und Maler und hat neben seiner Karriere als Marketingmanager eine Ausbildung an der Kunsthochschule absolviert, darunter The Royal Drawing School und The Heatherley School of Fine Art in London. Seine bevorzugten Themen sind die akademische Zeichnung, Porträts sowie Landschaften. Ob mit Öl-, Bleistift-, Kohle- oder Pastellfarben, er spielt kühn mit dem Licht, das sich wie ein roter Faden durch seine Arbeit zieht, und bemüht sich unermüdlich, das Herz und die Fantasie einzufangen.

ÖV: Die RBS Haltestelle „Deisswil“ liegt direkt vor den Pforten des Bernaparks (ehemals Kartonfarbrik) und Sie haben im 15-Minutentakt eine Verbindung (S7) in Richtung Bern oder Worb. Achtung: NICHT in Stettlen aussteigen (Deisswil ist ein kleiner Vorort der Gemeinde Stettlen). Das Atelier im Bernapark liegt entlang der RBS-Linie im EG, Einhang 21, erreichbar über ein Treppe, rollstuhlgängig via Innenhof (Seite Markplatz).
Auto: Fahren Sie auf der A6 bis Bern und nehmen Sie die Ausfahrt 37-Bern, in Richtung Bolligenstrasse und Umfahrungsstrasse bis zum Bernapark in Deisswil.
Der Bernapark ist ein lebendiger Gebäudekomplex mit Wohn-, Arbeits- und Freizeitbereichen, der ab 2010 aus der ehemaligen "Kartonfabrik Deisswil" erwachsen ist. Das helle, rund 90m2 grosse Atelier der SMS Schweizer Malschule liegt direkt entlang der RBS Linie. Zugang entweder von Bahnseite oder von Seite Innenhof, Bernapark 21, in unmittelbarer Nähe des Bernapark Museum | Kunstraum Thomas Demarmels.
